Kitchen Designs – Simple Wins Every Time

Some of you may know that I’m currently planning and designing the renovation of my beach style home here in Queensland, Australia.

I have designed hundreds of kitchens over the years and I can certainly tell you that the simplier is by far the better. Kitchens can be very complex rooms with all the cabinetry, appliances, practical finishes to consider and not to mention the expense.

And maybe that’s why I love this kitchen so much because it follows all the basic rules by keeping it simple.

It’s neutral in colour – timeless and fresh

It’s simple – will not date too quickly

It feels inviting – you can make a mess in the kitchen, it’s not a showroom

It has scope – you can create a thousand looks just by changing accessories

The addition of natural materials are always pleasing in a kitchen, giving it a warm and friendly ambience, a true centre of the home.

I’m also loving the pineapple editions scattered around this kitchen, it gives it a beautiful tropical hint.

I do find it amazing sometimes just how scared people get when it comes to designing their own kitchen. Functionality and practically are straight forward concepts, but choosing colours well that’s when the nerves set in.

Don’t panic, decide what appeals to you and go for it. I would say 8 out of 10 clients that I have went for white, apologising to me profusively that it’s boring and safe, well I say no it’s not, its a very smart choice.

Let me know if you’ve recently renovated a kitchen and what your best tip is, we’d love to hear from you.

Happy Island Styling.

    I can’t believe it!
The Pineapple Lamp is the exact same base that I found and blogged about just recently.
I remember seeing this in Home Beautiful? or Real Living? and loved it then too……
    Thanks for the reminder!
