Hello Island Lovelies,
I created a cool new way to make a 100% natural bamboo tray that’s so super easy to make out of something totally recyclable.

There’s such a lot of bamboo locally, and I noticed they were shedding a lot of these frond like parts of the plant.
I took one home to have an experiment with because they really reminded me of the old palm fronds that fall around, and how people make the most wonderful containers out of them.
I washed the old bamboo frond and noticed it started to curl up, so I wrapped it around a large vase, secured it with rubber bands and waited for it to dry. Sure enough my prediction of it moulding to the vase shape as it dried worked.
Clean, dry and shaped it is now the perfect natural bamboo tray, large enough to display heaps of beautiful coastal treasures for my table as an elegant centre piece.
So if you spot any of these natural remnants next time you pass bamboo trees, have a go at creating your very own natural bamboo tray.
Happy Island Styling.

What a fabulous idea Zoe.
I have these always dropping in my backyard and they are always such a nuisance but I will look at them in a different light now.
They could even be lined and used as serving trays for a fabulous island soirée.

Thanks Ellen, I had the light bulb moment last weekend, it’s such a simple idea. I would be tempted to give them a clear laquer spray to harden if you were to use them as a serving tray. I reckon you can line them with banana leaves or woven raffia to play on the natural serving idea. I also reckon they would be beautiful with an Asian inspired setting too. Zoe x
